Our Jasmia side table is made entirely of marble: a round polished top resting on a base of two flat marble panels that meet in a cross. It stands 55cm tall and 30cm across, a slim footprint that fits where a wider table would crowd a room. The stone is grey, swept through with darker veining that runs on the diagonal down the panels and swirls across the top. Marble is a natural stone, and no two pieces are veined quite alike. At 20KG this is solid stone through and through, not a thin facing over something lighter.

With a 30cm top, this is a table for the few things you want close at hand: a stack of books, a reading lamp, a trailing plant or a single vase of stems. At 55cm tall it sits comfortably beside an armchair or the end of a sofa, and it suits a bedroom as a bedside table where floor space is tight. The cross-shaped base looks the same from every side, so it can stand in open floor space as happily as against a wall, and a pair either side of a sofa or a bed makes a neat, balanced arrangement.

The table is self-assembly, so you put it together yourself, and because it weighs 20KG it is worth choosing its spot before you build it. The top and both panels of the base are marble with a polished finish, which gives the stone a soft sheen and brings the veining forward. Marble is a porous stone, so a saucer under any plant pot will keep the polished top looking its best.
