Description

The Knightsbridge IP65 GU10 spike light is a black die-cast aluminium uplight with a glass lens, designed for permanent outdoor installation on lawns, borders and hard landscaping. The fitting accepts a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) up to 35W and is supplied with both a ground spike and a wall mounting bracket, allowing it to be either staked into soil or fixed to vertical surfaces such as fence posts, rendered walls or timber cladding.

The IP65 rating protects the lamp holder and internal wiring from water jets and dust ingress, making it suitable for year-round exposure to UK weather including rain, snow and garden irrigation. The pre-wired 2m outdoor cable has a black sheath that blends into soil and lawn edges when laid, and the cable is long enough to reach from typical garden socket positions to planting beds, driveway edges or facade uplighting positions without needing an extension.

The cylindrical body measures 72mm diameter and 130mm in length, with a tiltable head that adjusts on installation to direct the beam upwards onto walls, into trees, or across ground-level planting. The die-cast aluminium construction gives the fitting a 1.1kg weight that resists wind movement when wall-mounted and prevents the spike being pulled out of soft ground by cable tension. The matt black finish reduces reflections under security lighting and suits contemporary, industrial and minimalist garden schemes.

Dimming capability depends on the GU10 bulb installed — most dimmable LED GU10s work with standard trailing-edge dimmers, but compatibility should be checked against the specific bulb model chosen. The fitting is Class I and requires an earth connection.

The fitting carries an IP65 rating, which protects against water jets and dust ingress. This makes it suitable for permanent outdoor installation in UK weather conditions including rain, snow and garden irrigation systems.

Can it be used as a wall light or only as a spike light?

Both. The fitting is supplied with a ground spike for lawn and border installation, and a wall mounting bracket for fixing to vertical surfaces such as fence posts, rendered walls or timber cladding. The head tilts on both mounting options to direct the beam.

What bulb does it take and is one included?

The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb up to 35W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 5-7W warm-white LED GU10 for pathway and border uplighting, or a higher-output 10W bulb for facade and tree uplighting.

How is the cable connected to mains power?

The 2m outdoor cable terminates without a plug, so it must be wired into an outdoor junction box or connected to a garden circuit via a weatherproof connector. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician and the circuit should be RCD-protected.
