Description

A dinner plate 28cm across and 2.5cm deep, made in white clay and glazed cream, with a broad band of indigo drops painted around the rim. The drops run in concentric rings, largest and furthest apart at the outer edge and tightening as they work inward, and each one is laid on by hand so the size and the spacing vary around the circle. The well in the middle is left plain.

Twenty eight centimetres is a full dinner plate, and the painted band sits on the rim rather than in the well, so the pattern stays visible around the edge once the plate is served. It is dishwasher safe and food safe, which puts it on an everyday table rather than on a shelf. The rim is not turned perfectly true, so plates in a stack sit at slightly different angles.

The body is white clay and the pattern is a water based paint under a glaze. Every piece is shaped and painted by hand in Vietnam, which is why the drops sit closer together on one plate than on the next. Indigo Drop runs across the table from side plates and cereal bowls to jugs, a teapot and a twelve piece set.
