Description

A stand for an open book, 28cm wide, 27.5cm tall and 21cm deep, with a sloped face and a ledge along the bottom edge to stop the pages sliding off. The face is not a single board: it is laid up from short blocks set in a chevron, so the grain runs in alternating diagonals across the whole panel.

Twenty-eight centimetres takes a cookbook open at a double page and holds it at reading angle on a worktop. At 1.03kg it stays put while a page is turned. There is no hinge and the shape is fixed, so it lives out on the counter rather than in a cupboard.

The wood is mango, and the blocks are offcuts from furniture making, which is why the chevron never repeats the same grain twice. Each stand is assembled and finished by hand.
