Description

A round side plate in cream glazed ceramic, 19cm across and 2cm deep, with a wide flat rim and a shallow well. The rim carries the whole of the pattern: a ring of indigo strokes, each a rounded head sitting at the inner edge of the rim and drawn out into a fine tapering line that runs to the plate edge. The strokes are painted by hand, so the heads vary in size and the gaps between them open and close around the circle. The well is left plain.

Nineteen centimetres is a side plate rather than a dinner plate: bread beside a bowl, a starter, cake or cheese at the end of a meal. Because the pattern sits entirely on the rim it stays visible with food on the plate instead of disappearing under it. The plate is dishwasher safe and food safe, and it leans against a wall on a worktop as readily as it stacks.

The body is white clay under a cream glaze, painted and made in Vietnam. Every plate is painted by hand, so no two rims carry the same ring of strokes. Iba runs across a full table in the same indigo: a dinner plate, a pasta bowl, a cereal bowl, serving bowls, a butter dish, a jug, mugs, and a twelve-piece set.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

19cm across and 2cm deep.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes.

Is it food safe?

Yes.

Will the pattern be the same on every plate?

Not exactly. The rim is painted by hand on every plate, so the size of the heads and the spacing of the strokes differ.

How do I look after it?

Wash it after every use to prevent staining, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it with care to prevent chipping.
