Description

This is a hot air balloon in woven rattan, made to hang in a child's room. The balloon is a full, rounded shape, closely woven at the top and base, with two open lattice bands around its middle that let light through the weave. Slim iron rods run from its base to a small woven basket and are drawn together at the midpoint, just as the ropes of a real balloon are. It is 60cm tall and 25cm across and weighs 0.7KG, large enough to read clearly from the doorway of a nursery without crowding the room.

It belongs in a nursery or a child's bedroom, hung from the ceiling above a bed, beside a window or in the corner of the room, where the balloon shape gives a young imagination somewhere to travel. A loop at the very top makes hanging simple with a hook or a length of cord. The open basket is our favourite detail: a small soft toy can take a seat as its passenger, which turns a decoration into a little story at bedtime. The brown rattan sits easily with painted walls, patchwork quilts and other woven pieces, and it suits a playroom or a reading corner just as well.

The balloon is woven rattan over an iron frame: the iron holds the rounded shape and forms the rods, while the rattan brings the texture and warmth. Rattan is a climbing palm cane, light and pliable, which is why it lends itself so well to close weaving and open lattice alike. For styling, hang it where the basket is easy to see from the bed or a favourite chair, and leave a little space from the wall so the lattice bands catch the light. The styling props shown are not included.

Frequently Asked

What is the mobile made of?

The balloon and the little basket are woven rattan, built over an iron frame that also forms the slim rods joining the two.

How big is it?

It is 60cm tall and 25cm across at its widest, and it weighs 0.7KG, a generous size for a nursery or bedroom ceiling.

How does it hang?

A loop at the very top of the balloon lets it hang from a ceiling hook or a length of cord, at whatever height suits the room.

Does the soft toy in the basket come with it?

No. The soft toy and the other styling props shown are not included; the price is for the rattan balloon mobile alone.

What colour is it?

It is brown throughout the woven rattan, and the open lattice bands let light and shadow play across the weave.

Which rooms does it suit?

It suits a nursery, a child's bedroom or a playroom, hung above a bed, beside a window or in the corner of the room.
