Description

The Hava is a lantern 29cm tall and 20cm across, built around a frame formed by hand from iron. The frame is shaped into an openwork cage and molten glass is poured and blown into it, so the glass takes its form inside the metalwork rather than being fitted to a finished frame. Once it has cooled the iron is treated in a rustic antique brass finish, and the openwork throws its pattern outward in shadow when a candle burns inside.

At 29cm tall and 20cm across this is the larger of the two Hava sizes and it takes a fair share of a table top. On a dining table it holds the centre and casts the shadow pattern across the surface around it, and on a hearth or a hall table there is room for it to stand on its own. Set beside the small Hava it gives two heights instead of a repeat. The base is a 20cm circle, so it wants a surface that can carry that footprint without the edge overhanging.

The wall is glass and the cage around it is iron. Each frame is formed by hand before the glass is blown into it, so every lantern comes out slightly different. The antique brass on the iron is a rustic finish rather than a polished one. The Hava also comes in a small size. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked

What size is it?

29cm tall and 20cm across. This is the larger of the two Hava sizes.

What is it made from?

The wall is glass. The cage around it is iron, finished in antique brass.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. Indoor use only.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth so dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfiber cloth in a circular motion on the glass. To take off excess wax, use warm water with a mild dish soap, dry it immediately and do not leave it to soak.

Does it get hot in use?

Yes. Position the candle securely and keep the flame away from the glass, keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
