Description

This is a tall, graphic ornament cast in polyresin: a slender beige column with rounded cut-outs bitten into alternate sides. The notches step up the column in turn, so the piece looks different from every angle: from the front it reads like a stack of letters, while from the side the curves open into shallow channels. Its surface has the look of natural stone, with small pits, flecks and streaks that give the beige a quiet depth rather than a flat finish. It measures 10cm long, 10cm wide and 34cm tall and weighs 1KG, so it has a narrow footprint but enough height to hold its own beside books, vases and candlesticks.

With a footprint of 10cm by 10cm, it fits on a console table, a bookshelf, a mantelpiece or the end of a sideboard where a wider piece would crowd the space. At 34cm tall it suits a living room, a hallway, a bedroom or a study, and it works well as the tallest point in a group of smaller objects. The beige pairs with pale oak, linen, plaster walls and other natural materials, so it sits comfortably in a calm, natural scheme. It makes a thoughtful gift for someone furnishing a first home or anyone who likes sculptural forms with a modern edge.

The column rises from a deeper square block at its foot, which gives it a steady base and a clear, architectural outline. The cut-outs have smooth, rounded inner faces and crisp outer edges, and the texture runs across the whole piece, including the inside of each curve. Polyresin is a cast resin that takes fine surface texture well, and it weighs far less than solid stone. As a styling note, set it off-centre on a console or shelf with a low bowl and a small wooden box beside it, so the curves have space around them and the height reads clearly.

Frequently Asked

Is it made of real stone?

No. It is made from 100% polyresin, with a surface that has the look of natural stone, complete with small pits, flecks and streaks.

How big is the ornament?

It is 10cm long, 10cm wide and 34cm tall, so it needs only a small patch of shelf but still has real height.

How heavy is it?

It weighs 1KG, which makes it easy to lift and move when you restyle a shelf, a mantelpiece or a console table.

Where does it work best?

It suits a console table, bookshelf, mantelpiece or sideboard, where its height and narrow base let it stand among books, vases and candlesticks.

Does it stand on its own?

Yes. The column rises from a deeper square block at its foot, which gives it a flat, steady base on a shelf or table.
