Description

Halfdan is a small white stoneware vase built from two rounded tiers, one stacked on the other, each ringed with thin vertical fins that stand out from the body like the pleats of a paper lantern. A plain, straight neck rises from the top tier, and a narrow foot lifts the lower one clear of the surface. It stands 14cm tall and 11.5cm across, so it is a compact piece for a shelf or sill rather than a floor vase, and at 0.618KG it has a reassuring weight in the hand. Stoneware is a dense, hard-fired clay, so it has a solid, substantial feel rather than a fragile one.

The neck is narrow, so it suits a single stem or a small spray of dried flowers or grasses more than a full bunch. We like it on a windowsill, where daylight falling across the fins picks out every ridge, or on a side table beside a candle and a plant.
