Description

Hale is a pair of stoneware candle holders, each built up from stacked blocks like a miniature tower. One is made of three squared tiers, the lower two pierced with open windows, so you can see straight through its base; the other is a column of angled wedges that zigzag towards the top. Both carry a deep brown, pitted glaze. They are compact: one is 6.5cm long, 5cm wide and 9.5cm tall, the other 8.5cm long, 5cm wide and 11cm tall, and each takes a single taper candle at its top.

Because they differ in height, the two holders read as a pair rather than twins, which makes them easy to group. Stand them side by side on a dining table, a mantelpiece or a side table, or split them between a windowsill and a bookshelf, where the cut-outs and stepped outlines can be seen from every side.
