Description

These are four beige stoneware bowls, each 14.5cm across and 5cm tall, with a crab motif in the centre of every bowl. The sides curve gently up from a low foot, so the bowls sit wide and shallow, and each one holds 450ml. That makes them a breakfast and side bowl size: a good portion of cereal, porridge or soup, or a side salad, rather than a deep noodle bowl. The outside is plain, speckled stoneware, and the decoration is kept inside, where you see it as you eat. Stoneware is dense and hard-wearing, which is why it suits everyday tableware.

As a set of four, they cover a table for four at breakfast or a small household's everyday meals. The crab gives them a seaside character that suits a kitchen table, a summer lunch in the garden or a seafood supper, where they can hold sauces, salads or a side of new potatoes. They sit comfortably on a dinner plate as a starter bowl, and the low shape makes them easy to reach into when dips and nibbles go round the table. Each bowl is finished in a reactive glaze with an overlaying glass component.
