Description
The Knightsbridge GU10 spike light is a 304 stainless steel outdoor spotlight with a ground spike mount, IP65 weatherproof rating, and a clear glass lens. The cylindrical head houses a single GU10 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) and can be angled on the mounting joint to direct light onto paths, borders, trees, or building facades. The unit arrives pre-wired with 3m of outdoor-rated cable.
Designed for installation in garden beds, lawns, and soft ground, the spike pushes directly into soil or mulch without needing a fixed base or concrete pad. The 3m cable gives flexibility to position the spike away from the nearest junction box or power supply, and the 230V mains operation avoids the need for low-voltage transformers. The IP65 rating protects the internal components from rain, dust and garden irrigation.
The 304-grade stainless steel body resists corrosion in wet UK climates better than mild steel or painted aluminium alternatives, and the brushed stainless finish weathers to a consistent patina over time. The spike head measures 62.5mm in diameter and 92mm in length, giving a compact profile that sits low in borders without dominating the planting. The GU10 fitting accepts both halogen and LED bulbs up to 35W, with dimmer compatibility depending on the bulb choice.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The spike light takes a standard GU10 bulb up to 35W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED GU10 between 3-7W and 2700K-3000K for accent lighting, or a cool-white 4000K-5000K LED for security and path lighting.
Can the head be angled?
Yes. The cylindrical head rotates and tilts on the mounting joint, allowing light to be directed at different angles — upward onto trees or facades, or downward onto paths and borders.
How deep does the spike need to be pushed into the ground?
The spike should be pushed into soil or mulch until the base of the cylindrical head sits just above ground level, typically 150-200mm deep depending on soil density. In hard or stony ground, pre-drill a pilot hole to avoid bending the spike.
Is it safe to leave outdoors year-round?
Yes. The IP65 rating and 304 stainless steel construction protect the unit from rain, frost and UV exposure. The clear glass lens is impact-resistant but can be damaged by direct strikes from lawnmowers or strimmers, so position the spike away from mowing paths.
