Description

The Knightsbridge GU10 IP65 spike light is a ground-mounted spotlight with a black die-cast aluminium body, adjustable head and a clear glass front. The 63.5mm diameter cylindrical head houses a single GU10 lamp socket (bulb sold separately) and the 3m pre-wired outdoor cable runs from the base of the spike to a junction box or transformer connection.

Designed for garden borders, pathway edges, architectural uplighting and feature tree lighting, the spike pushes into soil or soft ground and the head rotates on a horizontal axis to direct light up onto a wall, across a flowerbed or along a path. The IP65 rating means the fitting is fully protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, making it suitable for year-round outdoor exposure in the UK climate. The Class I earthed construction requires connection to a standard 230V mains supply with earth.

The die-cast aluminium body resists corrosion better than pressed steel alternatives and the black powder-coat finish holds up against UV exposure and temperature fluctuation. The spike itself is approximately 150mm long and pushes into soil to a depth that keeps the head stable in wind — typical installation sees 100-120mm of the spike below ground. The fitting accepts any GU10 halogen or LED lamp up to 35W, with most users choosing a 4-7W LED in warm white (2700-3000K) for energy efficiency and longer service life in an outdoor setting.

What GU10 bulb should I use?

The fitting accepts any GU10 halogen or LED up to 35W. For outdoor use a 4-7W LED in warm white (2700-3000K) is recommended for energy efficiency and longer service life. Bulbs are sold separately.

Is the IP65 rating suitable for all-weather outdoor use?

Yes. IP65 means the fitting is dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction, making it suitable for year-round UK outdoor exposure including rain and snow. The fitting should not be submerged in standing water.

How is the cable connected to mains?

The 3m cable is pre-wired to the fitting and terminates in bare cores. It must be connected to 230V mains via a weatherproof junction box or an outdoor lighting transformer system, installed by a qualified electrician. The fitting is Class I and requires an earth connection.

Can the light direction be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The head rotates on a horizontal axis, allowing you to angle the beam up onto a wall, across a border or along a path after the spike is in the ground.
