Description

These are two embossed stoneware Christmas plates, each 16cm across and 2cm tall, with faces that stand slightly proud of the surface. One plate carries a smiling, bearded face with closed eyes and a curled moustache, framed by bold vertical stripes; the other is Granny herself, her hair gathered into a bun and her lips pursed, set inside a red rim scattered with dots. Because the faces are raised rather than printed, they have real depth when you pick a plate up, and red leads the colour on both, which keeps the pair firmly in the Christmas mood.

At 16cm, these are side plate size: right for a mince pie, a slice of stollen, a couple of biscuits or a piece of Christmas cake rather than a full roast dinner. They are meant for food, so they can go straight into use on Christmas Eve for the treats left out for a visitor down the chimney, at a family tea in December, or alongside the coffee when friends call round in the run-up to the big day.
