Description

A shallow serving bowl turned from mango wood, 35cm across and 5.5cm deep. The sides are low and close to vertical and the base is flat and wide, so it holds like a dish rather than cupping like a bowl. A band of carved etching runs around the outside of the sides, cut by hand, and the inside is left plain for the grain.

Thirty-five centimetres of flat base takes a whole tart, a round of bread, or cheese with the knives beside it, and the 5.5cm sides keep it all on the wood without hiding it. At 1.045kg it lifts loaded in one hand. It is food safe.

The wood is mango, and the tone runs from pale cream to a warmer brown through a single piece. Two deeper Gavivi bowls are made as well, at 25.5cm and 30.5cm across, and two Gavivi stands.
