Description

The large Gavivi is 30.5cm across and 12cm deep, five centimetres wider and two and a half deeper than the small. The sides run steeply from a narrow base out to the rim, and a hand-cut band of etching wraps the edge, cutting through to lighter wood so the band reads paler than the surface it sits in.

Twelve centimetres of depth at 30.5cm across is a serving bowl rather than a table bowl: salad for eight, with room to turn it. At 1.04kg empty it is a two-hand carry once it is full. It is food safe.

The wood is mango, taken from trees felled once they stop fruiting, and the etching is cut by hand using traditional methods. The grain is different in every bowl. A 25.5cm Gavivi bowl and a 35cm shallow Gavivi bowl are made as well, with two Gavivi stands.
