Description
Our Gate ornament is a stoneware arch, 20cm tall, rising from two feet and curving over an open centre. The two sides are not straight: each one kinks and sways as it rises, so the opening between them has a wavy, almost hand-drawn outline rather than a neat doorway shape. A glaze speckled with blue covers the piece, the flecks densest across the top of the arch and scattering more thinly as they run toward the feet. It is made entirely of stoneware and weighs 0.532KG, so it has real heft for its size.
At 13.5cm long, 6cm wide and 20cm tall, it suits the places where a vase or a framed print would crowd things: the corner of a desk, the top of a stack of books, a bedside table or the tier of a side trolley. Being only 6cm wide, it fits a narrow mantelpiece or windowsill where little else will. It works as a piece on its own, giving a study or living room a quiet point of interest, and it sits comfortably beside glass vases, candle holders and other ceramics.
Stoneware is fired at a high temperature, which gives it a dense, solid body. The glaze is what gives each one its character: the maker notes that, due to the nature of the glaze, colour variations may occur, so the depth of blue and the spread of the speckle can differ a little from piece to piece. Set it slightly off centre on a shelf with a little space around it, so the open arch frames a glimpse of the wall, or pair it with a tall vase so the two heights play against each other. The styling props shown are not included.

Frequently Asked
What material is the Gate ornament?
It is made entirely of stoneware, a dense clay body fired at a high temperature, and it is finished with a speckled blue glaze.
How big is it?
It is 13.5cm long, 6cm wide and 20cm tall, and it weighs 0.532KG, so it fits a desk, a bookshelf or a narrow mantelpiece.
Is every piece identical?
Not exactly. The maker notes that, due to the nature of the glaze, colour variations may occur, so the depth of blue and the spread of speckle can differ a little between pieces.
Can I put flowers in it?
No. It is an ornament rather than a vase, with no opening for stems or water, so it is made purely for display.
Where does it work best in a home?
It suits a desk, a bookshelf, a bedside table, a windowsill or a side trolley, anywhere a small 20cm tall piece can add a point of interest without crowding the surface.
Does anything come with it?
You receive the single stoneware ornament on its own. The styling props shown, such as the vases and books, are not included.
