Description

The Ganda is a small vanity tray cut from solid travertine, 15cm square and 2cm deep. Travertine is a limestone laid down by mineral deposits at natural springs, and each piece is chosen for its surface pattern, then shaped and smoothed by hand. The ground is a pale cream, scattered with the small open pits that run through travertine, and the tone shifts from tray to tray.

At 15cm square this is a tray for a small group of things rather than a surface to lay out: rings and earrings on a bedside table, a hand cream and a scent bottle on a dressing table, or whatever collects beside a basin. At 2cm deep the rim is low, so what sits on it is easy to pick up again. Stone is heavy for its size, and at 0.84kg this one stays where it is put.

The tray is solid travertine, carved from a single piece. The stone is natural, so the pitting, the tone and the small marks in the surface differ from tray to tray. The Ganda is made in this 15cm square and in a larger size at 31 by 16.5cm.

Frequently Asked

What is travertine?

A form of limestone, laid down by mineral deposits from natural springs. It is cut and smoothed by hand into the tray.

What size is the larger one?

31 by 16.5cm, against 15cm square on this one.

Are the markings the same on every tray?

No. The pitting and the tone belong to the stone, so every tray differs.

Where is it meant to go?

A bathroom, a dressing table or a bedside.

How do I look after it?

Hand wash only. Wipe it with a damp cloth and do not leave it to soak. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from the stone.
