Description

The Ganda is a vanity tray hand carved from solid travertine, 31cm wide, 16.5cm front to back and 3cm high. Travertine is a limestone laid down by mineral deposits from natural springs, and the stone carries a pale, tonal variation through it, so the surface shifts in colour from one part of the tray to another.

It is made for a bathroom, a dressing table or a bedside table, and it holds jewellery and the small things that otherwise collect on a flat surface. At 16.5cm front to back it fits a basin shelf or a windowsill of that depth, and at 3cm high it keeps what stands on it within easy reach. The tray weighs 1.84kg, so it stays where it is put.

The stone is travertine throughout, selected for its durability and its surface pattern, then shaped and smoothed by hand. The pitting and the colour differ from tray to tray, so no two are alike. Ganda is also made in a smaller size, 15cm square and 2cm high.
