Description
Our Florist egg cups come as a pair in stoneware, and each one wears its own pattern. One has large flower heads and leaves around the cup, set on a flared stem banded with a geometric key pattern and rows of small petal motifs. The other is covered from rim to foot in a close, multicoloured scatter of little flowers and leaves. Both share the same goblet shape, a rounded cup on a tall pedestal, 5cm across and 10cm tall, and each 25ml cup holds an egg upright.
These are breakfast egg cups first of all, for boiled eggs on a busy weekday or a slower weekend brunch. At 10cm tall they lift the egg well clear of the plate, which makes the top easy to slice off and leaves room for toast soldiers alongside. Because the two patterns differ, you always know whose egg is whose. They suit a kitchen or dining table that enjoys colour and pattern, an Easter breakfast or a guest tray, and as a pair they make a thoughtful small present for anyone who still takes their eggs boiled and dipped.
Stoneware is fired at high temperature and comes out dense and hard-wearing, which suits something used every morning. Both cups go in the dishwasher, and they can also go in the microwave and the oven, so there is nothing special to remember once breakfast is over. The narrow stem opens out into a broad, flared foot that gives each cup a steady base on the table. With so much pattern of their own, they look best against plain plates and a simple cloth, and between breakfasts they earn a place on an open shelf or a kitchen dresser.
