Description

The Flermanne is a ceiling pendant light built as an open geometric cage of fine steel wire, finished in gold and hung from a black cord with a matching gold ceiling canopy. It is 31cm across and 110cm tall overall, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the cage. It takes a single E27 bulb up to a maximum of 60W. The bulb is not included, so you choose the light it gives. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

Because the cage is open, the bulb sits on show at its centre, framed by the faceted wire outline. That makes the choice of bulb part of the look, and a clear globe or filament bulb suits the cage well. A pendant of this size works nicely over a dining table or a kitchen island, or in a hallway, and we like two or three in a row along a longer table. The gold finish brings warmth to grey, white or dark walls and sits comfortably alongside black or brass details.

The frame is steel, a strong material that keeps the crisp lines of the cage, and the gold runs through the canopy, the lampholder and the wire alike. There is no switch on the light itself, because it is switched at the wall. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains, and as a wired-in ceiling light it should be installed by a qualified electrician. It weighs 1.377KG packed, and the installation instructions are available as a download. Our practical tip: pick up an E27 bulb of 60W or less alongside it, since none comes in the box.
