Description

The Fiore is a rattan dining chair with a rounded, fan-like back of slim rods that spread outward from the seat, tied together by bands of woven binding. The seat follows the same idea, its rods laid side by side and wrapped at the edge, and the whole shell sits on a slender iron frame with four splayed legs. It is 55cm wide, 45cm long and 84cm tall, a comfortable size for a dining table, and the Natural tone of the cane keeps it light to look at even in a busy room. The chair takes a maximum load of 125KG.

This is a chair for the dining room or the kitchen table, where its open weave lets light through and stops a row of chairs feeling heavy around the table. At 5.05KG it is easy to lift and pull out, so it works well for everyday meals and for the extra seat you bring in when guests arrive. The open back also suits a desk in a study or a quiet corner of a bedroom, where a solid upholstered chair would take up more visual space. It pairs well with a dark wooden table, as the rattan reads warm against it.

Rattan is a climbing palm whose cane is strong for its weight and flexible enough to bend into curves, which is what lets the back of this chair keep its rounded line. Here the rods are bound at the rim and cross-wrapped at regular points, and the iron legs are joined by a cross stretcher that braces them below the seat, with small feet at the base of each leg. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. For styling, add a flat seat pad in linen or wool if you like a softer sit, and leave the back bare so its fan of rods stays on show.
