Description

A round leather pouffe, 65cm across and 30cm high, made up as a drum. The top is a panel of narrow leather strips plaited into a basket weave, domed very slightly and finished with a raised seam where it meets the side. The sides are plain hide in panels joined by vertical stitched seams, and the tone runs unevenly across them, deeper towards the top of each panel and lighter at the base.

At 30cm it sits lower than a chair seat, which puts it at footstool height in front of a sofa or an armchair, and at 65cm across it takes both feet at once. It is rated to 100kg, so it holds an adult sitting on it when a room fills up. A piece this wide works in the open middle of a room, between a sofa and a low bench, rather than tucked against a wall.

The leather is buffalo hide, the same on the woven top as on the plain sides. It is finished so the grain and the depth of tone vary from panel to panel, and it takes a patina with use rather than staying as it arrives. The top is woven by hand, so the run of the strips is never quite the same twice. It weighs 11kg.
