Description

This is a heat lamp first and a light second. It draws 250W through a standard E27 screw cap, and its retail pack calls it an infra red ruby finish hard glass lamp: a deep red bowl of hard glass with a mirrored lower half that throws the output forward in one direction rather than scattering it around the room. Nearly all of that 250W leaves the lamp as radiant warmth you feel on the skin, which is why the brightness printed on the pack is only 300 lumens. An ordinary 250W household lamp would put out many times that.

It goes into any holder that takes an E27 (ES) screw cap and is rated for 250W and the heat that comes with it, which in practice means a ceramic holder or a purpose built heat lamp fitting rather than a table lamp. Before ordering, read the cap on the lamp you are replacing: E27 is the wider of the two common screw caps at about 27mm across the thread, and E14 is the narrower one found on most candle lamps. Pointed where you want the warmth, it also casts a low red glow, so think of it as something to work beside rather than to read by.

The lamp is not dimmable, and a dimmer would alter the heat as well as the glow, so put it on a plain switch. The pack prints a five year lamp life and a warm white output of 1,250 Kelvins, and the energy label rates it class G, at 250kWh per 1,000 hours, which is what a radiant source of this size costs to run.
