Description

The Eveready Infra Red is a 250W incandescent heater bulb with a ruby red hard glass envelope and an E27 Edison screw base. The red glass filters out most visible light while allowing infrared radiation to pass through, producing heat as the primary output and only 300 lumens of deep red-tinted illumination at 1950K. The bulb is designed for heat lamp applications rather than general lighting.

Used in bathrooms for radiant heating, reptile and poultry enclosures for temperature control, and industrial drying or warming processes, the bulb delivers consistent heat output over its rated lamp life. The E27 base fits standard ceramic heat lamp holders and must be paired with a holder rated for 250W continuous use. The bulb is non-dimmable and operates on 230V mains without requiring a transformer or ballast.

The hard glass construction withstands higher operating temperatures than standard incandescent bulbs, though it remains fragile and must not be touched when hot or exposed to water spray while lit. The 250W rating draws approximately 1.09A on a 230V circuit, so it should be installed on a dedicated lighting circuit or one with minimal other load to avoid tripping breakers. The Energy Rating G reflects the incandescent technology, which converts most input power to heat rather than visible light.

Frequently Asked

What is this bulb used for?

The Eveready Infra Red is a heat lamp bulb designed for radiant heating rather than lighting. Common applications include bathroom heat lamps, reptile and poultry enclosures where ambient temperature needs to be maintained, and industrial drying or warming processes. The red glass filters visible light while allowing infrared heat radiation through.

What holder does it require?

The bulb fits a standard E27 Edison screw base. However, it must be paired with a ceramic or heat-resistant lamp holder rated for continuous 250W use, as standard plastic lamp holders may melt or deform under the heat output. Purpose-built heat lamp holders are recommended.

Can it be used in enclosed fittings?

No. Infrared heater bulbs generate significant heat and require ventilation to prevent overheating. They should only be used in open reflector fittings designed for heat lamps, never in enclosed shades, lanterns or fully-covered bathroom fittings.

How much heat does it produce?

At 250W input, most of the electrical energy converts to infrared heat rather than visible light. The exact heat output depends on distance and ambient conditions, but the bulb is typically positioned 300-600mm from the target surface in reptile enclosures or bathroom heat lamp installations to provide effective radiant warming.
