Description

The Enir is a hyacinth vase in a soft dusty terracotta glass, 12cm tall and 8cm across. It is blown in an hourglass profile: a wide cup at the top that flares out at the rim, a pinched waist about a third of the way down, and a straight-sided lower body standing on a flat base. The rim and the base come out at close to the same width, so it reads as a column rather than a bowl on a stem. Small bubbles and a gentle rippled surface run through the wall of the glass.

The upper cup holds a hyacinth bulb clear of the water while the roots run down through the waist into the body below, with the bulb sitting in the mouth. The opening is 8cm across, wide enough to drop a bulb straight in and to take a short posy cut to length. At 12cm tall it stands on a windowsill without blocking much light, and it fits a narrow shelf or a place setting.

The glass is recycled and hand blown, and the texture is worked into it while it is still hot, so the ripple and the pattern of bubbles differ from vase to vase. The colour sits in the glass rather than on the surface, and it reads warmer where the wall thickens at the waist and the base. The same vase is made in clear.

Frequently Asked

Will a hyacinth bulb sit in it?

Yes. The opening is 8cm across and the upper cup holds the bulb clear of the water, with the roots running down through the waist into the body below.

How big is it?

12cm tall and 8cm across at its widest, with an 8cm opening.

Is the glass recycled?

Yes. It is hand blown from recycled glass, and the texture is worked in while the glass is still hot.

Does it come in another colour?

Yes. The same vase is made in clear as well as this dusty terracotta.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it with a dry, soft cloth to lift any dust, and handle it carefully. Harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners will damage the finish. It is for indoor use only.
