Description

A globe planter in reclaimed iron, 36cm across and 23cm tall, so it reads as a flattened sphere rather than a ball. The sides swell out from a small flat base and turn back in again to a wide circular opening at the top. The iron is finished close to black and run through with bands of dull gold where the patina breaks, heaviest around the widest part. It holds 15 litres.

At 36cm across this is a wide planter rather than a tall one, suited to something that spreads: a bushy shrub, a fern, a small standard with a broad root ball. The opening is wide and the walls curve back in below it, so a plant sits down inside the bowl rather than perching on top of it. At 23cm tall it goes on the floor beside a chair or on a low table without blocking what is behind it. Endo is made in two sizes of globe planter and this is the small one.

The iron is reclaimed, and the aged patina it brings with it is what gives the planter its colour. The black is distressed rather than laid on evenly, and the gold is part of that same finish rather than a second metal, so its run differs on every one.
