Description

The large Endo hanging planter is 22.5cm across the rim and 16.5cm deep, and it holds 5000ml. The sides fall in a steady taper and then turn tight into a small flat base, so the pot is wide at the top and gathered underneath. Three leather cords run through holes cut in the rim and knot together above it, with the tails of the knot left loose. The reclaimed iron is a dark gunmetal with a satin sheen, streaked lighter down one face and broken by ochre where the rust has come through along the lower curve.

5000ml and 22.5cm across takes a plant with spread to it rather than a single small specimen: a trailing ivy, a spider plant throwing runners, a fern whose fronds fall past the base. Two can hang together at different drops, and a fern will fall well below the rim. Over a stairwell or in a tall window the cords do the placing, and the pot is looked at from below, which is where the gathered underside shows.

The pot is reclaimed iron and the cords are leather. Nothing is painted on. The tone is what the reclaimed metal carries, so the gunmetal, the grey and the ochre fall differently on every pot and no two are marked alike.
