Description

Our Emmie floor lamp is a tall, slim light in natural, made from linen and iron. A long cylindrical shade sits over a slim base that narrows towards the floor, and both carry the same fine woven texture, so the lamp reads as one soft, upright shape rather than a shade perched on a stand. It stands 120cm tall and 28cm across, and the shade alone is 70cm tall, giving a long, even surface for the light to come through. Inside are two E27 fittings, which take ordinary screw-in bulbs.

It belongs in a living room, beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa, or in the corner of a room where a ceiling light feels too bright for the evening. Lit, the tall linen shade glows evenly along its length. That gives a soft, low light for reading, talking or winding down rather than a hard pool of brightness. The 180cm clear cable gives you room to reach a socket and stays discreet against a floor or skirting board. The switch sits on the cord, so you can turn it on without reaching up into the shade. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The lamp comes without bulbs, so you will need two E27 bulbs; the maker's maximum is two 40W bulbs, 5W LED or 9W CFL. It weighs 3.71KG, and the maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. The styling props shown are not included. For styling, let its height do the work: stand it close to a wall or beside a low, rounded chair, where the long column of linen sits well against soft fabrics and plain painted walls.
