Description

Clear crystal and polished chrome, five candle lamps, and a round frame about 60cm across: the familiar chandelier shape, done without fuss. The crystal is cut and hung to catch whatever light the lamps give out and scatter it across a ceiling, while the chrome frame carries that sparkle rather than fighting it. The drop adjusts, so it can sit close under a modest ceiling or hang properly low over a table. Small candle lamps keep the arms looking light rather than loaded. It is a piece that reads as dressy without being heavy-handed.

We reach for it over a dining table, where five small points of light fall more kindly than one big source, and on a landing or in an entrance hall where something worth looking at helps. It works in a bedroom as well, provided the ceiling gives it room to be seen from below. Lamps take the E14 fitting, and we would choose LED candles, either the plain C35 or the flame tip, since both keep the profile slim behind the crystal. Dimming works if the lamps you buy are dimmable; a dimmer is bought separately.

The frame is metal in a polished chrome finish, dressed with clear Diyas Select crystal. Dust the crystal with a soft dry cloth and it keeps its glitter; marks on the chrome buff away with a dry duster rather than a spray. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashes. How wide is it, and how low will it hang?
The frame measures 600mm in diameter. The drop is adjustable between 800mm and 1800mm, so you can set it high in a hallway or bring it down over a dining table.

Which lamps does it need?
Five E14 candle lamps, each up to 40W. LED candles in the C35 or flame tip shape suit it best. Lamps are not supplied.

Can it be dimmed?
Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with the fitting.

What sort of crystal is used?
Clear Diyas Select crystal, hung against the polished chrome frame.

Can it go in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which means dry rooms only, well away from baths, showers and steam.

How do I keep the crystal looking bright?
A soft dry cloth is usually enough. If the crystal has dulled, a barely damp cloth followed by an immediate dry buff will bring it back, with the power off and the lamps cold.
