Description

Elius is a clear glass storage jar made to look like a little house, with a square body and a lid shaped like a pitched roof that sits neatly over the top. It is made from 100% recycled glass and measures 12cm long, 12cm wide and 19cm tall, with a capacity of 1100ml. That is roomy enough for a good stash of biscuits without crowding the worktop. At 1.8KG it is a weighty piece of glass, with thick sides and a chunky base that give it a solid feel in the hand.

It sits in our Christmas range and earns its place on the table through the festive weeks. The glass is suited to food, so fill it with gingerbread, chocolates, walnuts or sugared almonds and set it on a sideboard, a kitchen shelf or the middle of the dining table for guests to help themselves. Clear glass shows what is inside at a glance, so the contents become part of the decoration. Once the decorations come down it works just as well in the kitchen for dry goods such as pasta or tea bags, on a desk for paper clips, or in a bathroom for cotton pads. Filled with homemade treats, it also makes a thoughtful gift.

Both the jar and its roof lid are glass, and the lid lifts straight off, so filling and topping up take a moment. It goes in the dishwasher, which makes it easy to wash between fillings, but it is not for the microwave or the oven. Because the body is square, it lines up tidily against a wall or tucks into the corner of a shelf.
