Eisha Mango Wood Coasters - Dark Brown - Set of 6

A set of six round coasters in mango wood, finished in a dark brown stain, each one carved by hand with a ring of petal shaped gouges radiating out from a hole through the middle. The carving cuts back through the stain to the paler wood beneath, so every gouge reads lighter than the face around it. The grain varies from one coaster to the next and shows through the stain rather than being covered by it.

Six is enough to lay a table for four and keep a pair back. They are for a dining table, a coffee table or a desk, anywhere a glass would otherwise stand on bare wood. A turned wooden stand is supplied with the set, and the hole through the middle of each coaster drops over its post so the six store stacked. The set measures 14.5 x 10 x 10cm as it is supplied, so it leaves a small footprint on a table between uses. On a pale table the stain reads dark against it, and the carved ring is the part that catches the light either way.

The wood is mango, a by-product of fruit farming: once the trees stop bearing they are felled and the timber put to use. The stain is dark brown and the grain varies naturally within it, so no two coasters in a set match exactly and the colour shifts a little over time. The Eisha range also holds a bowl, a serving bowl and a wooden cake stand.

What comes in the set?

Six coasters and the wooden stand they stack on.

How big is the set?

The set measures 14.5 x 10 x 10cm as it is supplied.

What are they made from?

Mango wood under a dark brown stain, carved by hand with a ring of petal shaped gouges round a hole through the middle.

Will they all match?

No. The grain of the wood varies, so the stain takes differently on each one.

How should I look after them?

Wash them in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry them straight away. Rubbing an edible oil such as olive or walnut into the surface with a dry cloth feeds and protects the wood. The colour changes a little over time, which is natural.
