Description
A twelve piece dinner set in terracotta stoneware, made up of dinner plates, side plates and cereal bowls. All three forms share one simple profile and are proportioned to sit together on a laid table. Two layers of glaze are laid over the inside of each piece and a band round the outside of the rim, stopping part way down so the lower body and the foot stay bare terracotta clay. The mix is adjusted to give the right reaction in the kiln, so the tone and the texture shift a little from piece to piece.
Twelve pieces in all, across the three forms. A dinner plate takes a main, a side plate takes bread or a starter, and a cereal bowl will hold soup or a pudding as readily as breakfast, so the set covers a meal from one end to the other. The terracotta tone is warm rather than grey, which puts it with bare wood and with linen. Every piece in the set is also sold on its own, and the wider Edo range adds a pasta bowl and mugs in the same terracotta.
The clay is terracotta and the body is stoneware. The double glaze is mixed to react in the firing rather than to fire flat, and that reaction is what produces the variation: the tone moves within a single piece as well as between pieces, and the glazed faces come out glossy against the matt clay left bare below them. No two sets come out of the kiln the same.

Frequently Asked
What is in the set?
Twelve pieces: dinner plates, side plates and cereal bowls.
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?
Yes, both, and it is food safe.
Why do the pieces vary in tone?
The glaze is mixed to react in the kiln rather than to fire to a flat colour, so the tone and the texture shift within a piece and between pieces.
How heavy is the set?
7.1kg for the twelve pieces.
Can pieces be bought singly?
Yes. The dinner plate, the side plate and the cereal bowl are each sold on their own in the same terracotta.
How should it be washed?
Wash it after every use to prevent staining, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it with care to prevent chipping.
