Edo Stoneware Cereal Bowl - Terracotta

A cereal bowl, 16.1cm across and 6.2cm deep, made in stoneware from a terracotta clay body. The outside is left the colour of the clay, a soft warm brown. The glaze is white and covers the inside, then rolls over the rim and finishes in a band on the outer edge, so the bowl reads white from above and terracotta from the side. The wall curves out from a small flat foot into an open bowl with no lip to it.

At 16.1cm across and 6.2cm deep this takes cereal, yoghurt, a dessert or a small portion of soup. It stacks, three one inside another, the terracotta foot of each showing against the white of the one below. It is dishwasher safe, microwave safe and food safe.

The clay is terracotta and the body is stoneware. Two layers of glaze go on across the rim and the base, in a mix adjusted to react in the kiln, so the tone and the texture shift from bowl to bowl and nothing comes out of the firing quite like the piece beside it. Edo also runs to a dinner plate, a side plate, a pasta bowl and mugs in two sizes, in this terracotta and in slate.

How big is it?

16.1cm across and 6.2cm deep.

Is it sold singly?

Yes. This is one bowl.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes, and microwave safe, and food safe.

Will two bowls match?

Not exactly. The glaze is reactive, so the tone and the texture vary from one piece to the next.

How do I look after it?

Wash after every use to prevent staining, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it carefully to prevent chipping.
