Description

A pair of short, wide mugs in terracotta stoneware, each 6.5cm tall and 8cm across, with a small round handle. The body is dipped in an off-white glaze that thins to a warm line at the rim and stops short of the base, leaving a band of bare terracotta clay showing underneath it. The sides are softly faceted rather than a true cylinder, and the inside is a warmer sand tone than the outside.

At 195ml these are short mugs rather than tall ones, closer in size to a large cup, and one fills with a small tea or a morning coffee without much room to spare. The 8cm width is greater than the 6.5cm height, so they sit low and steady on a tray or a bedside table, and the handle takes one or two fingers rather than a whole hand. They are foodsafe, dishwasher safe and microwave safe.

The mugs are stoneware with a terracotta body under an off-white glaze. The glaze pools and thins unevenly, and the line where it stops above the foot sits at a slightly different height on each mug. Two come in a set. The Edo range runs to dinner plates, side plates, pasta and cereal bowls, and the same mug in a larger size and in slate.
