Description
A pair of short stoneware mugs, each 6.5cm tall and 8cm across, holding 195ml. The wall is close to straight and the rim is left slightly out of true, so it waves rather than running round. A simple loop handle is pulled from the side. The glaze is a pale grey that streaks vertically down the body and thins to a rust brown line along the rim and the outer edge of the handle, and the last band at the foot is left bare, so the dark clay shows underneath.
195ml is a short mug rather than a large one, and at 6.5cm tall it sits low, wider across than it is high. A hand goes round the whole body rather than only the handle, which makes it a mug to sit with at a table more than one to carry about. The pair sit on a laid table alongside a jug in the same glaze. Two come in the set.
The mugs are stoneware. The glaze stops short of the foot and is left off it entirely, and where it thins over the rim and the handle the clay comes through as a warm brown, so no two mugs carry the same run of streaks. The Edo mug is made in a larger size, and in terracotta as well as slate.

Frequently Asked
How many mugs come in the set?
Two.
How much does each one hold?
195ml. Each mug is 6.5cm tall and 8cm across.
Can they go in the dishwasher or the microwave?
Yes to both, and they are food safe.
Why is the base darker than the rest?
The glaze stops short of the foot, which leaves a band of bare stoneware underneath.
Does the mug come in other sizes or colours?
Yes. It is also made large, and in terracotta as well as slate.
How should they be looked after?
Wash them after every use to keep the glaze from staining. Use a mild detergent, do not leave them to soak, and handle them with care so the rims do not chip.
