Description

Clear crystal is set along a bright polished chrome column, with a black suede shade sitting over the top to soften what the lamp throws out. The plating is reflective enough that the crystal picks up whatever daylight or lamplight is already in the room, so the piece has presence even when it is off. It stands 82cm tall on a footprint of 23cm square, takes one E27 lamp of up to 20W, and is controlled by an inline switch on the flex rather than a switch on the body.

That height suits a hall console, a chest of drawers or a deep bookcase shelf, where a shorter lamp would sit below eye line and do little more than light the surface it stands on. In a sitting room we would put it on a side table next to an armchair, and it works just as well as a pair either side of a bed. It is a heavy, solid thing once assembled, so it wants a surface with room to spare rather than a narrow ledge.

The shade is suede in black, the crystal is clear, and the metalwork is polished chrome throughout, a combination that sits happily against dark timber or a plain pale wall. To keep it looking right, take dust off the crystal with a soft dry brush and lift fingerprints from the chrome with a barely damp cloth, drying at once; skip sprays and polishes, which can dull the plating and mark the suede. Do this with the lamp off and cold. We keep this one as a single finish rather than a family of variants, so what you see is what we stock.
