Description

Drops is a pendant in opal and steel. A teardrop of opal glass, broad and round at the base and drawn up to a narrow neck at the top, with the whole form in one unbroken curve. The neck is closed by a small polished steel cone that carries a black flex. The glass is thick, warm white and evenly diffusing, so the lamp inside never shows as a point and the whole body glows. The widest part sits low, which makes the shape read as heavy at the bottom and light at the top. There is no rim, no seam and no fixing visible anywhere on the glass. It measures 23cm across.

It suits a table, an island or a hallway, hung low enough to be looked at rather than into. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.

The holder is E27. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

An E27 lamp. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

How high should it hang above a dining table?

About 80cm from the table top to the bottom of the shade. Go higher over an island people walk past, and lower over a table nobody passes beneath.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
