Description

This small stoneware cup holds 150ml and measures 7cm across and 7cm tall, so it is a child's cup for milk or water rather than a full-sized mug. The cream body is scattered all over with tiny flowers, each with a round centre, and the walls have a softly uneven, hand-formed look, so the rim rises and dips a little as you turn it. On one side sits a round ring handle with a beaded edge, a closed loop that a small finger can hook and hold.

It belongs at a child's place at the kitchen table, for warm milk at breakfast, a drink with an afternoon snack or a proper cup of tea at a playroom tea party. A 150ml cup takes a short pour, which suits a child who drinks a little at a time, and grown-ups who like a small coffee will find the size handy too. The scattered flowers and the ring handle make it easy for a child to spot their own cup among the larger mugs on a busy family table, and it makes a cheerful birthday present for a young tea drinker.

The cup is made entirely of stoneware, a dense ceramic that holds heat well, and its surface has a glossy finish. It goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so milk can be warmed in the cup itself, and the cup can go straight into the dishwasher after breakfast. It weighs 0.214KG. For a cheerful morning setting, stand it on a small tray beside a plain bowl and a spoon, or keep a pair on an open kitchen shelf where the flowers show; the styling props shown are not included.
