Description

This is a stoneware plate, 20cm long and 17cm wide, gently oval with a wavy, scalloped edge and a fine contrasting line tracing the rim. Across the centre sits a bouquet of garden flowers in a footed vase, and the whole surface is embossed with a close woven texture, so the multicoloured motif reads like cross-stitch rather than a flat print. At that size it is a side plate rather than a dinner plate: right for a slice of cake, a pastry, toast at breakfast or a few biscuits beside a cup of tea.

It suits a breakfast table, an afternoon tea or a dessert course, and it makes a cheerful bread plate beside a larger plate at dinner.
