Description

This book box is shaped like a sheep: two scalloped panels form its woolly fleece, joined by a low shelf and two rails. A sleepy face with closed eyes and drawn-on lashes sits proud of the front panel, and short legs lift it clear of the floor. It is made from MDF and iron in a painted green finish, and it measures 30.5cm long, 35cm wide and 30cm tall, so it sits right at floor level where little hands can reach the books for themselves.

It belongs in a nursery, a child's bedroom or a playroom, on the floor beside the bed, a reading chair or the rug where bedtime stories are read. Picture books stand upright on the low shelf between the two panels, resting against two rails, with their front covers on show so a child can choose a book by its picture. There is room alongside the books for a favourite doll or soft toy too. With a maximum load of 20KG it takes a good stack of board books and hardbacks, and at 3KG it is light enough for an adult to carry from room to room whenever needed.

Its legs are MDF, and the face is a separate shaped piece fixed to the front panel, where small metal fixings are visible. MDF is a dense, even board that takes paint smoothly, which gives the green its soft, uniform surface. The open frame keeps every book easy to see and easy to return to the shelf, so tidying up can become part of the bedtime routine. For styling, set it on a patterned rug or under a window, add a woven basket nearby for larger toys, and turn the face out into the room so the sheep is the first thing a child sees.
