Dimalai Recycled Glass Table Lamp Base - Clear

The Dimalai base is a squat, round-bellied vessel in clear recycled glass, 27cm tall and 16.5cm across, capped with a brass collar. A brass wire carrier rises from the collar and holds a shade clear of the lampholder. The glass is clear enough to show the rust coloured braided flex coiled inside the body, and the surface carries the shallow undulations of glass blown by mouth rather than pressed.

It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, and the switch sits inline on the flex, which runs 2.5m. At 27cm tall it suits a bedside table, a hall console or a shelf where it is seen at close range, and the brass carrier accepts a shade that sits on the lampholder rather than clamping to the bulb. Because the body is clear, what sits inside it is on view: the flex reads as part of the object rather than something hidden. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and mouth blown, so wall thickness and the small trapped bubbles differ from base to base. The collar and the carrier are brass. This is sold as a base, so no shade and no bulb are included. The Dimalai range also holds a complete table lamp in smoke brown glass, supplied with its fluted shade.

Where is the switch?

On the cord, as an inline switch. You operate it at the cable, which suits a bedside table.

Does a shade come with it?

No, this is the base alone. A small to medium shade suits the 27cm height.

Is clear glass too plain?

It keeps the visual weight down where a table is already busy. If you want more presence, the brown smoke version of the same base gives it.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it first, then use a soft dry microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Don't use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
