Description

The Dia in ink is coarse jute dyed to a deep blue black, formed as a tapered drum and lined pale on the inside. This is the extra large: 26cm tall, 40.5cm across the top and 46cm across the base. It is the deepest of the four as well as the widest, so the taper is gentler and the shade reads as a broad band of very dark texture rather than a cone.

At this size and this colour the shade is the dominant object in whatever it sits on. That suits a substantial floor lamp base or a pendant hanging alone, and it rules out most table lamps, which it would overhang. A dark shade this deep holds nearly all the light inside it, so what reaches the room leaves through the open top and bottom: a strong pool directly below and a strong wash directly above, with the middle of the room left to something else. Worth deciding before it is the only lamp in a corner. It weighs 0.8kg.
