Description

A side plate in ceramic, 22cm across and 3cm deep, with a ridged swirl running out from the centre to the rim so the whole face is corrugated. The glaze is reactive: two glazes fired together, cream over brown, with the brown showing faintly through the cream and breaking darker where the rim turns over.

Twenty-two centimetres is side-plate size, for bread beside a bowl or a course before the main one, and the ridging gives a knife something to push against. It is food safe and dishwasher safe, so it needs no different handling from the rest of the table.

The body is ceramic and it is made in China. A reactive glaze is not repeatable, so the depth of the brown and the way it breaks over the ridges differ on every plate. A Dhanuk dinner plate and a Dhanuk cereal bowl are made in the same glaze.
