Description
Our mug tree is a tall, slim stand in yellow, made from 60% cast iron and 40% iron, with a small bird perched at the very top. Three crossbars pass through the upright stem and reach out on both sides, giving six arms in all, and every arm finishes in a round ball end that gives a hanging handle a stop at the tip. It stands 44cm tall on a round base and measures 18cm long and 11.5cm wide, so it takes up very little worktop while lifting your mugs out of the cupboard and into view.
It belongs on a kitchen worktop, a dresser shelf or the end of a kitchen table, wherever you want your mugs within easy reach and on show rather than stacked away behind a door. It suits anyone with a handful of favourite handmade or patterned mugs they would rather look at than hide, and it frees up cupboard space in a small kitchen. Because it stands 44cm tall, measure the gap under your wall cupboards before you choose a spot. The yellow is gentle rather than loud, so it sits comfortably beside plain or patterned ceramics and brings a little warmth to a quiet kitchen.
The whole piece weighs 1.06KG. Cast iron is dense and heavy for its size, a sensible metal for a tall, narrow stand with mugs hanging from it. The upright, the crossbars, the round base and the little bird all share the same yellow, so it reads as one simple shape from every side. For styling, hang mugs on alternate sides so the tree looks balanced from the front, and keep the one you reach for most on the lowest arm. The styling props shown are not included.
