Description

A serving platter carved from a single piece of stone, 29cm from the rim to the end of the handle, 22cm across the bowl and 4.5cm deep. The bowl is shallow and round and the handle is flat and solid, cut from the same block rather than joined on afterwards. The stone is pale, with darker veining running through it.

Six hundred and fifty millilitres is a side dish rather than a main one: olives, a dip, or dressed leaves for two. At 2.4kg it is heavy for its size, which is the stone, and it stays where it is put. It is food safe. There is a larger size in the range.

The stone is carved by hand in a village workshop in Rajasthan. Colour varies from piece to piece because the material is natural, and the veining is never the same twice. A larger Darassa holds 2,800ml.
