Description

The Damini is a tall glass lamp base blown into a bottle shape, wide through the body and drawing in to a narrow neck 45cm from the table. The glass is clear but far from plain: air bubbles form through the wall while it is blown and tiny pieces of metal are worked in with them, so the whole body carries a scatter of dark flecks and clear bubbles held inside the glass. A brass collar caps the neck and carries a black lampholder with a shade ring, and a rust coloured cord runs from the base with a switch on it.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. Clear glass with something in it behaves differently from clear glass on its own: with a bulb behind it the flecks read as small dark points against the light and the bubbles as bright ones, so the base has depth instead of only transparency. At 45cm it stands well on a sideboard or a bedside table, and at 1.1kg it is light for its size. It takes an E27 bulb, the cord runs 2.5m with a switch, the plug is UK and EU, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand, and the bubbles and the metal flecks form during the blowing, so the pattern is different on every base. The collar is brass. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Frequently Asked

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a black lampholder and a shade ring on top. Supplied without a shade.

What are the dark specks in the glass?

Tiny pieces of metal, worked into the glass while it is being blown along with the air bubbles. The pattern they make is different on every base.

What is the maximum bulb wattage?

It takes an E27 screw fitting. Fit no more than the maximum wattage marked on the lampholder.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it and take any shade off, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
