Description

The Cravessa is a black pendant light shaped as a teardrop of fine steel wires, tapering to a slim point at the top and rounding out towards the base. Inside the cage sits a white satin glass shade, and satin glass diffuses light, so the glow that comes through the wires is soft rather than harsh. It measures 19cm across and 130cm high overall, and hangs from a round black ceiling rose. It takes a standard E27 bulb of up to 60W; the bulb is not included, which leaves the choice of colour and brightness to you. With an IP20 rating it is made for indoor rooms that stay dry, so it is not one for a bathroom or anywhere outdoors.

Hung on its own, it suits a dining table, a kitchen island, a hallway or a bedroom, and a pair or a row of them over a long table lets the teardrop outline repeat along its length. The black and white pairing sits easily with a monochrome scheme as well as with warm timber and green plants, and the slim 19cm width keeps it comfortable in a smaller room where a wide shade would feel heavy. There is no pull cord or switch on the fitting itself, as it is switched at the wall, so it works from the room's existing light switch.

The body and the wire cage are steel in a black finish, with the satin glass shade inside supplying the white. As a wired-in ceiling light running on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains power, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. Packed, it weighs 1.769KG. When you choose a bulb, any E27 lamp up to 60W fits the holder, and a warm white bulb gives the softest tone through the glass.
