Description

This is a wide, shallow stoneware bowl raised on a short foot and painted by hand, 26.5cm across and 7.5cm tall. Inside, a sunburst of painted rays and dots spreads out from a sculpted face that rises from the centre, while bold stripes run down the outside and round the foot, so it looks as good from the side as from directly overhead. It is made entirely of stoneware and holds 1000ml, which makes it a generous serving or fruit bowl rather than an everyday cereal bowl. The multicoloured decoration and the raised face give it real character on a table.

It is food safe, so it can earn its place at the table as well as on a shelf. Pile it with fruit on the kitchen counter, bring a shared salad to the dining table, or fill it with crisps and olives when friends visit. Because the face rises from the middle, food sits in the ring around it, which suits loose things such as fruit, leaves or bread.
