Description

The Cija is a small table lamp woven entirely in rattan: a squat round base with a tapered conical shade above it, and a brass disc between the two that carries the shade. Both parts are worked over a frame, the base in close horizontal rounds and the shade in vertical ribs with the weave running between them. It stands 27cm tall and 24cm across at the widest. A cord runs from the base and the lamp is supplied with a UK adaptor.

Rattan over a frame lets light out in two directions at once. The shade sends it down onto the table and out through the weave in a band at shade height, and the base glows as well, because it is woven and not solid, so the lamp is lit top and bottom rather than only under the shade. At 27cm it is a bedside lamp, short enough to sit beside a book rather than stand over it, and low enough that the glow is at hand level. It takes one E14 bulb up to 25W, the cord runs 2m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The shade and the base are natural cane woven by hand over an iron frame, so the weave tightens and loosens across each piece and no two are the same. The disc between them is brass. Unlike the lamp bases in this range the shade is part of the lamp and comes with it. A bulb is not included.

Frequently Asked

Does the shade come with it?

Yes. The shade is part of the lamp, not a separate purchase. Only the bulb is bought separately.

Does the base light up as well as the shade?

Yes. The base is woven rather than solid, so light comes through it too and the lamp glows top and bottom.

What plug does it have?

It is supplied with a UK adaptor.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it, then lift the dust out of the weave with a soft bristle brush. Keep harsh chemical cleaning products off the rattan.
