Chollerford Bone Inlay Dominoes Box - Off White

The Chollerford is an 18cm bone inlay dominoes box housing a complete set of 27 resin dominoes in a velvet-lined interior. The box lid replicates the pattern of a domino tile, with off-white bone inlay segments divided by a black resin line and seven inlaid black resin dots arranged to match the 6-6 tile configuration.

Designed as a presentation piece rather than purely functional storage, the Chollerford works as a coffee table or side table accent where the decorative lid remains visible when closed. The velvet lining protects the playing pieces during storage and provides a soft base when the box is opened on a polished surface. The 27 tiles form a complete double-six dominoes set, each moulded from black resin with recessed pips.

The bone inlay technique involves setting carved bone fragments into recessed channels in the mango wood base, then filling the gaps with black resin before polishing the surface smooth. Each box shows slight variation in the bone fragment patterning and resin fill depending on how the individual pieces were cut and laid during construction. The finished weight of 870g gives the box a solid presence without being cumbersome to lift or pass between players.

The off-white inlay shows natural tonal variation across cream, ivory and pale grey depending on the section of bone used, and may develop a subtle patina over time with handling and exposure to light. The smooth finish on both the inlay and resin sits flush to the touch, with no raised edges between materials.

How many dominoes are included?

The box contains 27 resin dominoes forming a complete double-six set, the standard configuration for two to four players. All tiles are stored in the velvet-lined interior.

Is the bone inlay real bone?

Yes. The off-white inlay is carved bone set into recessed channels in a mango wood base, with black resin filling the gaps between fragments. Each box shows natural variation in the bone patterning.

How is the box cleaned?

Wipe the exterior with a dry soft cloth. For stubborn marks, use a barely-damp cloth with water only. Avoid soaking the inlay or using chemical cleaners, as these may affect the resin or bone finish. The velvet interior can be brushed gently with a soft brush to remove dust.

Can the box be used for other storage?

The velvet-lined interior measures approximately 17cm x 8cm x 4cm internally, suitable for storing small items such as jewellery, cufflinks, watches or playing cards when not used for dominoes.
